Punta Cana Itineraries

Starter trip plans for 3, 5, and 7 days — built for first-timers who want beach time without over-scheduling.

Use these as flexible templates, not rigid schedules. Pick the length that matches your trip, then swap days based on your resort location and energy. For where to base yourself, see our Where to Stay guide and beach picks.

3-Day Punta Cana Itinerary

A quick tropical reset

Short on time? This 3-day plan keeps you close to the resort for maximum beach and pool time, with one easy outing so you still taste the local side of Punta Cana.

  1. Day 1

Arrive, settle into your resort, and spend the afternoon on the beach or at the pool. Keep the evening easy — dinner on-site and an early night.

  2. Day 2

Morning swim at Bávaro or your resort beach, then a half-day excursion (catamaran, cultural village, or cenote stop) that gets you back before sunset.

  3. Day 3

Leisurely breakfast, last beach walk, and a slow checkout. If your flight is late, book a resort day pass vibe — pool, lunch, then transfer to the airport.

5-Day Punta Cana Itinerary

Beach time with two real adventures

Five days is the sweet spot for first-timers: enough downtime to actually relax, plus room for two memorable day trips without feeling rushed.

  1. Days 1–2

Arrive and unwind. Explore your resort, try a couple of restaurants, and take a long sunset walk on the beach so you settle into island pace.

  2. Day 3

Saona Island or a full-day catamaran cruise — soft sand, natural pools, and the postcard Caribbean day most visitors come for.

  3. Day 4

Mix it up: Macao Beach for surf and local food shacks, or a zip-line / buggy adventure inland. Evening back at the resort.

  4. Day 5

One last morning swim, souvenir stop if you need it, then airport transfer. Leave buffer time — Punta Cana Airport can move slowly at peak hours.

7-Day Punta Cana Itinerary

The full Caribbean week

A full week lets you balance pure resort relaxation with Cap Cana, a cultural day, and one bigger excursion — without stacking activities back-to-back.

  1. Days 1–2

Arrive, unpack, and stay on property. Learn the resort layout, claim your favorite lounge chairs, and enjoy the first two evenings with zero agenda.

  2. Day 3

Beach-hopping day: start at your resort stretch, then visit Juanillo Beach in Cap Cana for a quieter, more upscale shoreline.

  3. Day 4

Full-day Saona Island or Catalina snorkeling trip. Pack reef-safe sunscreen, a dry bag, and small bills for tips.

  4. Day 5

Resort recovery day — spa, pool, or a slow lunch. Optionally add a short sunset sail if you still want something light.

  5. Day 6

Culture and flavors: downtown shopping, a local lunch, or a cacao / coffee tour so you see more than the resort gates.

  6. Day 7

Easy morning, pack early, and head to the airport with a comfortable cushion. Seven days goes fast — plan one “do nothing” afternoon and keep it.
